Astronomy I got into astronomy several years ago when I was shopping for binoculars.
My research into what "8x50" meant took me indirectly through several astronomy resources and on from there.
The picture at the left is of the Hubble Deep Field, which spurred my interest even more.
My interest was casual until my wife bought me a telescope, a Meade LX200
with a 10-inch mirror, which I'm very proud of.
Trail Riding I got my first bike in California in 1996, and have enjoyed dual-sport trail riding ever since.
Currenlty I have a Suzuki DRZ400, which is an awesome bike, and my wife has
a Suzuki DR200. The bike in the photo, which is at the top of Pikes Peak in
Colorado, is with my older bike, a Suzuki DR350 - an awesome bike for it's time. I keep it around in case I
want to ride with a bikeless friend. In 2009, after my last tour with Triple Canopy, I bought my dream bike, a BMW R1200GS.
I rented one a couple times and got addicted. People take them off road, but for me it's be pretty much a street bike.
Music I have been playing guitar since about 1999. I have always been interested in music, and I always wanted
to play the guitar but didn't start seriously until I was over 30. My biggest "inspiration" was John Denver,
and a lot of what I play is his. I also like Pink Floyd, Bob Seger, James Taylor, and several others.
I don't consider myself to be "good" so mostly I just play for myself, although I did participate in a talent show
once and did pretty well. I used to play the violin when I was a kid and recently bought a new one. That's actually
coming along better than I expected after oh, 25 years. There are a few songs I recorded on my
Music Page.
Photography I never set out to be a photographer, but once I started snapping pictures of various things,
I found that I was pretty good at it. I never had any training, but I do enjoy taking a good picture.
Other than functions or events, most of my photography is of plants, scenery, and nature in general.
