Bio
I was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1968 and when I was still a baby my family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico for reasons related to my father's health. I was the youngest of six children, five boys and one girl, and I am the only one with no memories of Omaha.
I was lucky enough to live in the same house in a modest, somewhat middle-class neighborhood until I moved out when I was 18. My parents did divorce when I was about 14, but by then all of my siblings had all moved on it didn't seem to have a major impact on my life.
When we moved into our house in Albuquerque it was on the edge of civilization. I spent an enormous amount of my time venturing around in the desert, what we called the "mesa", building forts, shooting bb guns, exploring, starting little campfires, smoking... I could actually walk about three miles east and be in the Cibola National forest, in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. When I was old enough, I spent a lot of time up there in places that I considered to be "mine."
After completing high school, I married my girlfriend and enlisted in the Army as a Cavalry Scout. I did my Basic and Job Training at Ft. Knox, KY. It was very exciting for me, having never been out on my own.
My first duty assignment was Germany with the 8th Infanty Division during the last years of the Cold War. I was there when the Berlin Wall came down, and also deployed to Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm from there.
Since then I have been assigned to Ft. Bliss, TX, Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Carson, CO, Korea, Recruiting in Fairfield, CA, and my last assignment was back at Ft. Knox as a Drill Sergeant in the same unit I went through as a trainee.
I am retired from the Army now. We decided to return to Colorado; back to the same house we lived in three years prior. After a while I got a job with a private security company. This was a great job, but in January 2008 I was contacted by another company and am currently working in Baghdad. When I complete my degree in Information Technology, I plan to pursue a job in that field.
